Reconstitution
Dissolving a lyophilised peptide powder into a liquid working stock, usually with bacteriostatic water.
Reconstitution is the first step in most peptide-research protocols: the lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder is dissolved into a liquid by adding a diluent — typically bacteriostatic water — slowly down the vial wall and swirling gently rather than shaking (shaking can shear the peptide).
The volume of diluent added sets the working-stock concentration: less water gives a more concentrated stock, more water a more dilute one. A 10mg vial in 2mL yields a 5mg/mL stock. The reconstitution guide includes an interactive calculator for this arithmetic.
