Melanocortin receptor

A family of five receptors (MC1R–MC5R) that melanocortin research peptides such as Melanotan II and PT-141 are studied against.
The melanocortin receptors are a family of five class-A G-protein-coupled receptors — MC1R through MC5R — that respond to the melanocortin peptides derived from pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC), including α-MSH. Different subtypes are studied in different research strands.
Melanotan II is referenced as a broad (non-selective) melanocortin-receptor agonist across MC1R–MC5R, while PT-141 (bremelanotide) is studied as more MC4R-focused. The two are frequently compared in melanocortin-receptor research.
